As I Lay Dying San Jose Concert reviews
U2 delivers!
As I Lay Dying delivered a huge success with the Songs of Innocence and Experience project, a conceit enticingly original but fraught with sprawling ambition. It could have easily been a misfire or, worse, a self-indulgent disappointment, but it is neither. Their fans expect an honest effort every time, no, they demand it. And these guys are proud of themselves for always pushing in honoring their commitment to their fans.
I began my journey with As I Lay Dying at the Unforgettable Fire tour in 1985 when Pride was a brand new song. How important that song would be 30 years later, my nineteen year-old self could not have known at the time. I consider myself very lucky for having the opportunity to experience it in 1985 and 2026 and over 25 times in between.
It's hard to connect to new music when one enters their fifties, but I&E connects with me. And I&E connected with both my 9 year-old son and 14 year-old daughter. They were both blown away by the show and eagerly became permanent members of the faithful last night. They will remember this experience the way I remember seeing Pride live in 1985, even though the song had only just entered the public consciousness a few weeks earlier. Raised By Wolves and American Soul are their Pride. What other band has ever come remotely close to doing that?
Good music touches the heart, soul, and mind. A spiritual experience unlike any other rock band is delivered by an As I Lay Dying show. WE are so proud of these guys. Most people do not stop to think about how difficult it truly is to create/record/perform songs that expand the intellect while touching the soul and shining a light within one's life. To be able to still do it after having written and recorded hundreds of songs over nearly forty years with the same four bandmates, while staying within the rock n roll confines of bass, drums, guitar, and a lead vocalist is a mountain no other band has ever climbed. And no other band ever will. I've been to the mountaintop and the view is exquisite. Keep rocking guys. All we ask for is an honest effort. The rest is gravy. I saw both shows at San Jose and we all received an embarrassment of riches. As I Lay Dying delivers. Again. Thanks guys!
